A 28-year-old man identified as Ndifreke Ibuotenang, has cried out
that he was brutalised last week Thursday by a group of policemen
attached to Mkpat Enin Police Division in Akwa Ibom State, while
returning from where he went to drink palm wine around 9:00pm as photo
(above) shows that his two eyes were left seriously affected.
According to Punch, the victim was later released after the payment of N10,000 bail.
When contacted, the state Police Commissioner, Murtala Mani, said
the police had already commenced investigation into the case, adding
that all the policemen that were on patrol from the station at the time
were in detention at the police headquarters in the state.
He explained that the fact that a police officer was a prosecutor did not mean that he could not be assigned to other duties. “We have already started investigation into the matter. We have detained all the policemen involved.
“I interviewed the victim close to three hours yesterday
(Monday). If the culprits are found wanting, they would be dismissed and
prosecuted,” he said.
