Drama as Pastor Hides in Church to Escape Angry Mob After Stealing School Funds

A pastor and another have landed in trouble and disgraced after they allegedly diverted school funds to personal use. 

 

It was a shocking scene on Wednesday at the Solidarity Child Rescue Centre and Primary School, in Kasarani of Kenya as two directors of the institution locked themselves in the office to evade the wrath of parents.

 

Kenyans reports that Pastor Peter Wambua and Aggrey Kere, took refuge in the office for almost seven hours after parents demanded they give an account of money collected during a previous fundraising ceremony.

 

The angry parents were left infuriated after the two directors gave varied financial records of the fundraiser during a meeting at the institution raising fears they had stolen some of the funds.

 

"He kept on changing the figures. One time he said Sh6,000 then he changed to Sh67,000. There are over 300 children in this institution apart from us parents who we were all given donation forms. Is the amount logic?" an irate parent was quoted by the Standard.

 

The parents further revealed that Mr Kere had acquired a loan of Sh6 Million, channeled it to his own bank account and used the school as a collateral. The parents further alleged that  he went ahead to buy a school bus to apparently hoodwink the parents not to question the huge amount he acquired.

 

The angry parents, who were calling for the ouster of the two, also claimed that the suspects had forged the accountant's signature and minutes to allow Mr Kere access some Sh200,000 to open a personal account. The Sh200,000 was to allow him secure the Sh6 Million loan.

 

"He even refused to sign a cheque of Sh100,000 for utilities and food stuffs. Instead, he employed someone to cook food donated to the institution and sell it to day scholars," a staff said.

 

An Australian national and sponsor at the institution, Christina Eglinton, had earlier noted: “Our recommendation is that Aggrey Kere and Pastor Wambua either voluntarily resign or are removed via a vote. We have been patient and more than lenient with both of these men but the blatant disregard of the law leaves us with no choice but to insist on their departure”.

 

The enraged protesters were calmed down by the school head, Isaac Mutuku who pleaded with the parents to have mercy on the embattled directors.
