Saraki Conducts HBP Test On Dino Melaye At Hospital Inauguration In Yobe (Photos)

Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Saturday urged the Federal Government, States and Local governments to ensure efficiency in all healthcare facilities across the country for the benefit of the masses.

Saraki, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanni Onogu, made the call during the commissioning and handing over of an 80-bed hospital built by Senator Hassan Mohammed and donated to the Federal Government in Potiskum, Yobe State.

The Senate President noted that with the hospital, the residents of Potiskum will no longer need to travel to neighbouring states for treatment.

He said: "This is why I committed to helping Senator Mohammad with getting the support of the Federal Government in the running of this hospital so that its benefits to the people of Potiskum and Yobe at large, are guaranteed and sustained.

"This is the kind of leaders we find today in the Nigerian Senate; people who are abandoning the practice of yesterday’s politics. It must be strongly lauded that this is a PDP Senator, in an APC led state, donating this edifice to an APC government.

"The lesson is that what matters is not the political party or the government in power but the love you have for your people and your connection with them. I challenge the Federal Government to ensure that this hospital that has been entrusted to them is adequately taken care of, and is run with the highest level of professionalism and efficiency possible.

"I implore the Ministry of Health to ensure this Hospital continues to receive priority attention both in management and in resource. I expect that this hospital will be run with the highest degree of efficiency possible; and to the good people of Potiskum, I encourage you to use this hospital and demand efficiency in service from the management," he said.

He added that the Senator chose to make a difference in the lives of people in his Senatorial District by building the hospital. "To build such an imposing edifice at a time like this, is not a mean feat," Saraki said. "To build and then transfer by donation, a hospital of this size and capacity to a different government in power other than his party, freely, for the service of his people is a signature statement of extraordinary leadership," he said.

The Senate President said he was moved when Senator Mohammad told him that he preferred to build a befitting hospital than the typical practice of sharing money to constituents. He said that with the hospital, the lives of many children and that of many pregnant women will be saved.

During a visit by the Senate President to the Palace of the Emir of Fika, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Abale, the Emir expressed gratitude to Saraki and his colleagues for making possible the passage of a law creating the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) which he said will help to rebuild and restore the areas ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgency.

The Emir said his Emirate was a popular commercial centre before the advent of insurgency and sought for the help of all Nigerians to bring back prosperity and normalcy in the area. He thereafter presented a horse to the Senate President as a mark of honour and appreciation.

The Senate President who thanked the Emir for the gift said from his experience in the banking sector he could attest to the fact that Borno and Yobe States were major trading centres which all banks could not ignore before the outbreak of the crisis and that he was committed to the rebuilding of the area.

He noted that his interest in bring life back to normalcy in the area made him to quickly intervene to ensure that the Federal Government assumed responsibility for the running of the newly commissioned hospital.

"I Prefer To Remain In Prison", 26-Year-Old Maid Confesses In Court (Photo)

    CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A 26-year-old house maid, Miss Mary Atte, arrested and charged before Isolo Magistrate’s court and remanded in prison for stealing her boss’ N2m, has refused to leave prison. She said she preferred to stay there in good faith.

She explained in the open court that the prison condition was far better for her than when she was outside and would continue to remain there for her comfort.

The shocking declaration amused the litigants present in the court including P.M.EXPRESS correspondent covering the court.

Atte made the confession when her matter was struck out for lack of diligent prosecution by the presiding Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Shonubi and was released to go home.

When the Magistrate set her free, she became angry and protested openly in court that she was going back to prison and she actually went back as she said.

Before she joined the bus back to the prison, Atte told our correspondent that she was brought to Lagos from her village in Benue State by her sister she simply called Esther.

She said Esther sent her to one man as house help where she served for some months and the man did not pay her the agreed salary.

She said she left the place and went to another man’s house, one Aneke Andrew’s house at John Ije close at Okota as maid and served for some time before Andrew came with another story and did not pay her.

She said when the time reached for the man to pay her, he alleged that she stole his dollars valued over N2m which she denied.

Atte said she was arrested and taken to the police station before she was charged to court for the alleged offence and remanded in prison since December 20, 2016.

According to her, she was initially afraid when she was brought to the prison at Kirikiri, not until she settled down she realized it was a blessing in disguise.

She said the women there are treated fairly and compassionately which she had lacked over the years and would like to stay there despite being freed by the court.

She said if they refuse to take her back into custody, she will plead with the matron to employ her there so that she will remain in that environment where people care for others.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered the prison officials carried her on their vehicle because she still had her property in the prison she supposed to take after she was released.

New! What You Need To Know About Mango Worms Aka Mango Fly (Graphic Video)

What are mango worms?
First, the mango worm goes by many names. It is technically a fly larva and it also goes by the names mango fly, putzi fly and tumbu fly depending on where you are.
Where are mango worms found?
Mango worms are found throughout tropical areas of sub-Saharan Africa, but is more common in certain regions (Central Africa, for example). You could come across them in another part of the world, too, but only if a human or animal traveled while infected with the worms.
The worm works like this:
Adult female worm lays a few hundred eggs into the soil OR onto some damp clothing that is hanging out to dry.
The larvae penetrate the skin of the host and take up residence in the subcutaneous tissue, a layer of skin that has fat and connective tissue filled with blood vessels and nerves.
Then they grow and fatten up.
After 8-12 days, a boil will have formed.
It will itch and then get increasingly painful before it…
actually opens up so the worm can come out to play.
The worm then falls to the ground where it buries itself in order to go into its final stage of growth before turning into a fly.
Got it? Good.

How can mango worm be prevented?
Mango worm is generally very uncommon for travelers to come across, but there are certainly a few steps you can take to really minimize your risk. For one, do not walk around barefoot on soil. By the same token, don’t roll around in the soil. Never a good idea.
As far as your clothes go, if you are in an area where mango worm is prevalent, it would be best to machine dry your clothes or iron them after leaving them out to line dry. The heat will effectively kill the larvae.

Mango worm treatment
There is no medication you can take that will kill the mango worm. You simply have to wait for it to come out. Alternatively, you can cover the boil with vaseline or a similar product and wait till the worm pops out on its own (the vaseline will cut off its access to oxygen). In rare cases, a visit to a clinic may be required to extract the worm.

Mango worms do not pose a serious health risk. They do not carry other diseases with them and they do not cause complications themselves outside of the boil that they create. It is important, however, to remember to thoroughly disinfect the area after the worm has emerged from the body.

Bureau De Change Outlets At International Airports In Nigeria Run Out Of Dollars Air passengers were thrown into confusion at the weekend when Bureau de Change (BDC) outlets at international airports nationwide declared foreign exchange, especially dollar, out of stock. Notable BDCs like Travelex, Sulah, Bossy Clean Exchange and Ibro Resources that had often sold at about N400 to a dollar, all declared “no dollar” to all outbound passengers. Intending passengers travelling on business trips were forced to devise alternative means to go on with their travel plans or simply returned home after loitering around the unyielding BDCs. Travel agents, who blamed the BDCs for hoarding, were worried about the development, describing it as “killing” to the air travel business and loss of revenue to parties concerned. A visit to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, yesterday revealed that though the BDCs were open to customers, none of them was ready to sell. Electronic boards indicated “we buy N398 to $1” and “sell for N400 to $1.” Except for Travelex that boldly pasted: “Sorry, we are out of stock”, others merely turned back travellers with “no dollar” response. An official of Sulah BDC told The Guardian that they had no dollar to sell because “people have failed to sell to us.” A Dubai-bound passenger, Elizabeth, said the BDCs had often been the most reliable source for travellers to get dollar and at comparatively good rate, but was surprised to find them with no stock since last week. She said: “I’ve been searching for a dollar equivalent of just N4 million since last week. I was actually prepared to travel only to find that there was no dollar anywhere. Ordinarily, Travelex would still have given $1000 if you can prove that you are travelling and go on to buy from others at higher rates. This time, none of them wanted to sell a cent. It is so pathetic.” Meanwhile, on the streets and outside the airport, mobile BDCs otherwise called mallams were selling in trickles of $100 at N510 to N550. Eniola Adesanya, who is bound for United States, had to do “trade by barter” with some overseas-based family members planning to send some money to their relatives in Nigeria. Adesanya told The Guardian that the method was her saving grace. “I had to start calling them to ask if they plan to send money to Nigeria. It is like giving them a loan, which I have paid to their relatives here. So, they will give me a refund in dollar in the United States. “It was through the same means that I bought a ticket from the U.S. There is no dollar here and the airline is not accepting naira for purchase. My method is funny, but otherwise I would still not be able to travel, as the visa will soon expire. It is so crazy around here. May God have mercy,” she said. The President of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA), Bernard Bankole, blamed the situation on artificial scarcity that should not have happened in an ideal setting. According to Bankole, “There is no reason for this scarcity because the official rate has not moved and the rate we get tickets has not gone up either. The official rate is still at N305 or N306 and the black market is doing at N520 to N525. But the round tripping has increased. So, people are envisaging that there may be devaluation so that they can make more money. That is the unfortunate situation. “The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is holding the country to ransom, and it is a shame. I believe if they have lost how to manage their forex policy, they should just resign and go away, rather than put the whole nation to shame. Because that is exactly what we are seeing now,” he said. http://ift.tt/2lD0tv7 from Blogger http://ift.tt/2lniGdv (...) Intending passengers travelling on business trips were forced to devise alternative means to go on with their travel plans or simply returned home after loitering around the unyielding BDCs. Because that is exactly what we are seeing now,” he said. http://ift.tt/2lD0tv7 from Blogger http://ift.tt/2lniGdv (...) Do I participate in federal decision making? I don’t. ‘’I am too busy addressing Kaduna problems to be part of it. When I am called for an opinion or when I happen to be around, and I have an input or if I see something going seriously wrong; I drive and go and see Mr. President I have heard A, B, C, D. I don’t think it is not right, you should consider doing C, D, E. I do that and I drive back to Kaduna. ‘’My primary assignment is Kaduna. I am not involved in the federal government. People like to say and attribute so much to me, and sometimes it is good for me, it gives me a larger than life image.“ The governor confirmed that there is a cabal in Aso Rock, but made reference to the fact that there is a cabal in every organisation. ‘’Even in your own newspaper houses, there is a cabal. Nobody can run an institution without a coterie of two, three, four trusted people. ‘’There is always a cabal; the issue is whether it is a positive or a disruptive cabal. Am I a member of the cabal? "How A Female Student Was Gang Raped By 10 Male Students In Ekiti College" How a female student was gang raped by other 10 male students in college of health sciences and technology, ijero ekiti This week it was learnt that the parent of a lady from the department of orthopedic came to the College of Health Sciences and Technology,Ijero Ekiti to lay a complain how their daughter reported that ten male students of the College gang rape her from 3pm to 8pm in a bush within the College premises. I was told that A week ago, during the rag day of the students of the College a lady was gang raped by 10 guys in the College premises in the bush . it was learnt that one of the ladies friends asked her to follow her to the bush in other to ease herself ,it was in that process that she led her into the hands of the waiting rapists who most people believed are dangerous cultist, armed robbers and serial rapist that has been terrorizing the College community and the people of the town but protected by the power that be in that institution . The information gathered is that the police are involved in investigating the case but the fear of most people is that ,this is not the first time such act would be happing and would involve police and would later covered up by the College management. The College authority released a statement to that effect and suspending the ones caught indefinitely . The analysis of two out of the names is written is here as gathered by students of the College. 1. Leke Ajibade (aka smog) is a serial rapist .it was learnt that about 3 years ago ,he was part of the boys that gang raped a student from the department of Dental and made a video recording of the lady , so anytime any of the gang members was in mood of having sex he would call on her using the video as a threat . Sometimes when they are together and they feel like having group sex the lady is at their sexual mercy. How him and his other rapists got back to that College is still a misery to staff and students till today . 2. Adegbegi Samuel This one was recently arrested after robbing and raping a student in her house . The lady recognized him among his gangs . It was gathered that when his house was searched ,they found nothing less than 100 phones of different brands and other stolen items . It was equally gathered from a reliable police officer in Ijero police command that the Principal of the College went to the police station to personally beg for the student who is a medical lab student . How he escaped jail and even a day suspension still baffles most people most especially the parent of the girl in question . It was even learnt that sometimes ago one of the students union executives attempted to rape a lady who is also a student in his department. It was the principal of the College that “settles” the matter and warned all parties that they should forget about the matter if not they would deal with them (the victim). I got this information from the students around in my area when I heard them recalling so many ugly events that has been covered up in the College as a result of the intervention of the Principal of the College and I felt ,the world should hear about this .especially women right activities and I would like nairalnders to link me up with contacts of such people especially email their address so that this issue would not be swept under the carpet . more also ,I want blogs and newspares to carry out independent research on this issue and feed Nigerians on their discovery most especially what has been happing in that college which supposed to be a training institution..
